Piano, safe and heavy items
Some items need more hands, specialized equipment and specific planning. Properly declared, they move without drama; discovered on the spot, they derail the day.
1What counts as a heavy or special item
- Pianos (upright, grand, heavy digital), organs and safes.
- Exercise equipment: treadmill, commercial stationary bike, rower, bench and free weights (declare the total weight of the plates).
- Stone or glass furniture: marble or granite tables, vanity tops, large tempered-glass tables.
- Aquariums over 200 litres (75 gal), hot tubs, massage chairs, very wide double-door fridges, massive antique armoires.
- Large-format artwork, sculptures, heavy frames, large mirrors over 1.5 m.
2How we move them
- Upright piano: piano dolly, lifting straps, full protection in blankets and a cover. Two to three movers depending on the stairs. Pedals and lid are secured before moving.
- Grand piano: the lyre and legs are removed, the instrument is laid on its side on a piano board ("skid") and strapped. Count three movers and plan a tuning 2 to 3 weeks later.
- Safe: reinforced dolly, floor protection boards, and prior check of the stairs' capacity. We won't take a safe up a fragile wooden staircase without an assessment.
- Stone tables: the top is separated from the base and carried upright on its edge in a crate or between two panels — never flat.
- Exercise equipment: we remove consoles and fold treadmills; weights travel in bins, never in cardboard boxes.
3What you need to know
- Heavy items are billed as a fixed surcharge announced in advance (see the "How pricing works" page) — never a surprise on the invoice.
- Check that your new address can receive the item: door width (an upright piano needs about 76 cm), stair turns, allowable floor load (full aquarium, safe).
- Aquariums are moved empty and dry. Plan containers for the fish and water, and restart the aquarium yourself on arrival.
- Our basic coverage on special items is limited: if your piano or artwork is worth a lot, talk to us about declared-value protection before moving day.
